Yoga Training Beyond the Pose

TOWNSENDCOLLECTIVE-YOGAMOTION-44“YogaMotion is not just a training for yoga poses. You yourself slowly transform.” – Sarah Rachor

Do you ever wonder why so many people attend Yoga Teacher Trainings? If you ask them, you'll find out it's about more than teaching a bunch of poses. It’s about becoming your own best teacher, connecting to your inner guru.

Guru is a Sanskrit term for a "teacher, guide, expert, or master" of certain knowledge or field. When you raise your own consciousness through in-depth study and direct experience, insights arise from your own keen perceptions. You become the master of your own universe, so to speak, no longer looking outside yourself for happiness, understanding, and wisdom.

As Jon Kabat-Zinn writes, “It’s not that God, the environment, and other people cannot help us to be happy or to find satisfaction. It’s just that our happiness, satisfaction, and our understanding, even of God, will be no deeper than our capacity to know ourselves inwardly, to encounter the outer world from the deep comfort that comes from being at home in one’s own skin, from an intimate familiarity with the ways of one’s own mind and body.”

“The experience of my YogaMotion Training was not only an opportunity to become more knowledgeable and confident in the practice of yoga, it was a personal awakening.” – Audra Bergman

What I have learned through witnessing the results of 49 trainings over 21 years is this:

We are here to learn, to grow, to awaken the wisdom and love that is already within us.

The first teaching in the Classical Yoga Sutras of Patanjali is this:

Atha Yoganusasanam 1.1

Now the teaching of Yoga begins.

For the teaching to begin the student must be ready and open for the journey. Those that enroll in a teacher training have developed an unquenching curiosity regarding this ancient art and science. A desire has arisen to know more about yoga, about life, about themselves and the ways to deepen their personal practice and share it with others.

“It really is like discovering the tip of the iceberg – a moment of astonishment when you find out just how big the iceberg is, and so much curiosity to discover more of it.” – Jenn Hogin

This course of study could simply be called Life Training, which is why we are shifting the description of our 200-hour course to Yoga and Wellness Education. Whether or not you envision yourself in the traditional teacher’s seat, the material and practical applications of the practice will most certainly altar your own reality – for the better.

Steeped in the ancient teachings of Yoga and Ayurveda accompanied by modern-day science, YogaMotion has evolved into a school for higher learning that is open to anyone looking to bring greater spirit, meaning and authenticity to their work and their lives.

“YogaMotion’s training is both challenging and life-changing. The nine-module training provided an invaluable opportunity to go beyond the exercise aspect of yoga and explore the many facets of yoga applicable to living a full and healthy life.” – Janice Haugen

A large percentage of our students enroll not with the intention of guiding a group of students through poses in a yoga studio, but to develop a more intimate relationship with their own body, mind, and emotions. It has been found that through this practice of self-inquiry, one becomes more at peace. And when one becomes more at peace in their own heart, they become more effective in helping others feel the same.

pink-heartYogaMotion Wellness Academy is a community of like-minded individuals sharing the belief that yoga is a vehicle for personal and planetary evolution.

“I found YogaMotion’s training to be an amazing in-depth life experience. It helped me not only grow as a yoga teacher but to evolve as a human. I look at things differently now. I am more loving and open minded and when I get emotionally overwhelmed I know techniques and movements that can help. This experience was life changing. When I signed up I knew I would learn how to teach but I didn’t know I would learn so much about myself.” – Courtney Frankl

There is word on the street that the field of yoga is becoming saturated with teachers. And I say, YES! Let us saturate our culture with this knowledge of how to live healthier, happier lives. Let us be proactive in our self-care. Let us become our own best gurus. Let us all be an example for one another as we build thriving communities, both locally and globally.

My biggest takeaway is that I feel I have the power to manifest the life I’ve always dreamt of.” - Drew Johnson
